What is RSS?

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is an XML-based format for content distribution.. It's an easy way for you to keep up with news and information that's important to you, and helps you avoid the conventional methods of browsing or searching for information on websites, or cluttering your inbox with news stories.

MY.USTI.NET offers several RSS feed topics for use in news readers and Web logs (blogs). Our feeds include headlines, summaries, photos and links back to news.usti.net for the full article. Our RSS feeds are 'free' to use and currently use RSS version 2.0.

RSS and XML content is called a "feed." Access to our RSS news feeds are below.

Did You Know?

MY.USTI.NET offers news, weather, stock and other RSS feeds that you can read using your customized start page at my.usti.net or using third-party RSS news reader software.

What's New in MY.USTI.NET RSS?

New! RSS 2.0: MY.USTI.NET has expanded our RSS feeds! We have also standardized the RSS into a popular RSS version 2.0 compliant feed.

New! Expanded Feeds with Photos: You will notice that our RSS XML feeds now include related photos for certain stories for your enjoyment. Linked photos are not supported by all RSS readers, but the my.usti.net personal portal supports viewing thumbnails, so you can add many different types of content to your my.usti.net home page.

MY.USTI.NET syndicates most of the news.usti.net topics via RSS!

You may use our feeds free of charge for individual, non-profit or non-commercial use. We do require attribution (which is included in each feed).

Some of our feeds are more active than others. For instance, the ".top" of every category has more articles than the topics and subjects below it. You will also notice that some stories may appear in multiple categories, for instance a story in a subcategory, may also be referenced in the parent topic.

How can I use RSS?
There are many ways to use RSS new feeds. These include using programs known as RSS Readers, or News Aggregators to collect, update and display RSS feeds or incorporating RSS feeds into weblogs (blogs).

News Aggregators (also called news readers) will download and display RSS feeds for you. A number of free and commercial News Aggregators are available for download. Popular news readers include AmphetaDesk, NetNewsWire, and Radio Userland.

Many aggregators are separate, "stand-alone" programs such as those listed above; other services will let you add RSS feeds to a Web page.

Other programs that support RSS news, include browsers and email clients. Popular ones such as Mozilla, Firefox, Thunderbird and Opera include the functionality, or it can be added with a free plugin.

MY.USTI.NET lets you add RSS feeds to your my.usti.net home page. Other popular portals such as My Yahoo!, My Excite, Google's personal home page etc., allow you to do this too.

Another way many people use RSS feeds is by incorporating content into weblogs, or "blogs". Blogs are web pages comprised of usually short, frequently updated items and web links. Blogging as a publishing tool is used for many purposes: traditional journalism, personal journals, group discussions around a topic, and many combinations in-between.
